About Closely related to Chester

I started this blog in February 2020 when I visited Andalusia in Spain. My idea was to record impressions of new places and experiences as they occurred. A few years ago, when I lived in Uruguay, I kept a daily diary. The writing remains fresh today because of the details noted down at the the time.

The flight home from Seville in early March 2020 was the last plane I traveled on that year. During the secluded spring of 2020 there was plenty of time to write. I finished and published Voyages with my Grandfather, a book I had been working on for several years.

I then worked on a sequel. Whereas my first book was set against a backdrop of the former British Empire, the follow-up, entitled ‘The Corncrake’s Welcome’ is about Ireland, North and South, my parents’ generation and how I grew up in Belfast in the 1960s and 1970s. Some of my blog posts have found their way into paperback form. Please let me know what you think of my writing. Click on the site to get alerts to new posts.
